Annotatsiya

This article examines the criticism of Joseph Campbell’s The Hero‘s Journey model from the perspective of Maria Tatar, who proposes an alternative concept of the female hero‘s path. Campbell’s model often relegates female characters to secondary roles as goddesses, temptresses, or prizes for male heroes. Tatar challenges this perspective, arguing that female characters undergo their own distinct transformations that do not conform to Campbell’s linear structure. The article analyzes classical and contemporary texts, including Homer’s The Odyssey, Madeline Miller’s Circe, and Pat Barker’s The Silence of the Girls, illustrating how traditional female archetypes are being reinterpreted. Additionally, the study compares Tatar’s approach with Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ symbolic and psychological perspective on female archetypes in Women Who Run with the Wolves. The article highlights the importance of re-evaluating heroic narratives in educational contexts, advocating for a broader literary analysis that incorporates female narratives. This inclusive approach fosters critical thinking, challenges cultural stereotypes, and enriches the study of mythology and literature.
