This article analyzes the magical system and personality formation process described in Ursula K. Le Guin’s "A Wizard of Earthsea" (1968) from the perspective of scientific literature, semiotics, psychology, and ecology. The genre features of the structure of the work and the uniqueness of the concept of magic in it are studied on the basis of semiotic analysis, the model of hero development, postcolonial criticism, psychological theories, and linguistic approaches. In the study, using the method of semiotic analysis, Le Guin’s magical system is interpreted in connection with language and sign systems. The essence of magic is based on the mechanisms of naming and naming, which indicates the importance of linguistic determinism and semiotic codes. Also, through the model of character development, the formation of the personality of the main character Ged, the process of self-awareness, and the stages of overcoming internal and external obstacles are investigated. Within the framework of postcolonial criticism, the article reveals the geopolitical and cultural structures of the World of the Sea of Earth, the relationships between the center and the periphery, and social hierarchies associated with magic. From the point of view of psychological theories, the concepts of personal identity, otherness, and internal conflicts of the hero, reflected in the work, are interpreted on the basis of K. G. Jung‘s theory of archetypes and Ericsson’s model of psychosocial development. This article comprehensively reveals the genre characteristics of the work "The Wizard of the Earth’s Sea" and the spiritual, philosophical, and social contexts of its magical system. The research results allow us to highlight the role of the work in the fantasy genre, Le Guin’s literary heritage, and its influence on the literary and aesthetic processes of the 21st century.
