The growing influence of ecocriticism has encouraged literary scholars to reconsider the ways in which texts engage with environmental questions and represent the relationship between people and the natural world. Although Louise Glück's Averno has attracted substantial scholarly interest, most existing studies emphasise mythology, feminism, psychoanalysis, or philosophical concerns, leaving its ecological perspective comparatively underexplored. This article examines how ecological consciousness emerges through the interaction of natural imagery, mythological symbolism, and environmental ethics in three poems from the collection: October, Persephone the Wanderer, and The Night Migrations. Employing qualitative textual analysis informed by ecocritical theory, the study demonstrates that nature functions not simply as a poetic setting but as an active presence shaping identity, memory, mortality, and ethical awareness. The discussion further shows that Glück presents seasonal transformation and myth as interconnected ecological processes that challenge human-centred interpretations of the natural world. By bringing these elements together, the article argues that Averno offers an ecological vision in which human existence is understood as inseparable from the wider community of living beings. In doing so, the study expands current ecocritical interpretations of Glück's poetry and highlights the continuing relevance of environmental perspectives in contemporary literary criticism.
