This article analyzes the formation and development of realistic traditions in the literary works of Samuel Butler. The study examines the writer’s critical attitude toward Victorian society, his artistic style based on satire and psychological realism, as well as the socio-spiritual issues reflected in the novels Erewhon and The Way of All Flesh.
