This article examines the role and functions of riddlesin English and Karakalpak literary traditions from a comparativelinguocultural perspective. The study explores the use of riddles in variousliterary genres, including epic poetry, fairy tales, poetic contests, children'sliterature, and classical works of English literature. Particular attention ispaid to the artistic, cognitive, and cultural functions of riddles as narrativedevices, tests of wisdom, symbols of intelligence, and instruments of moraland philosophical reflection.
