This article explores the semantic, structural, and metaphorical models of English and Karakalpak folk riddles, revealing their cognitive foundations and cultural meanings. Biomorphic riddles, which portray inanimate objects as living beings, reflect the human mind’s tendency toward animizing nature, while anthropomorphic riddles demonstrate the predominance of the human concept within socio-cultural cognition by transferring human qualities to other entities. The comparative analysis shows that riddles in both languages possess distinctive systems of poetic and symbolic expression through which each nation’s worldview, value system, and forms of metaphorical thinking are manifested.
