This article analyzes the cultural, historical, and philosophical context of the American writer Saul Bellow's work using his novel "Herzog" as an example. The study focuses on identifying the influence of the intellectual climate of the mid-20th century, as well as the social and moral atmosphere of post-war America, on the formation of the artistic world of the work. Particular attention is paid to the philosophical ideas of existentialism, individualism, and the crisis of humanistic values, reflected in the inner world of the protagonist, The study emphasizes the uniqueness of Bellow's style, which combines realism with deep philosophical reflection, as well as his contribution to the development of the intellectual novel of the 20th century.
