This article discusses the linguistic and cultural characteristics of paremiological units expressing the phenomenon of rain with a geortonymic component. In the French language material, phraseological units related to the phenomenon of rain and rainfall, which are one of the meteorological phenomena with a geortonymic component, are analyzed, and the cultural and historical foundations of the geortonyms included in them, their relationship with the metonym of rain, and the role of these units in French socio-cultural life are analyzed. It is also noted that geortonyms in the selected examples, as components of paremiological units, often reflect the culture and traditions of such areas of French social life as farming, animal husbandry, and gardening, and indicate the values that have long been formed in these areas of the French people.
