This article analyzes the substance and features of proof in criminal procedure from a scientific and theoretical perspective. The views of Russian and Uzbek legal scholars - V.S. Djatiyev, B.T. Bezlepkin, L.M. Karneeva, A.S. Barabash, Yu.K. Orlov, I.M. Gutkin, S.A. Sheyfer, A.A. Davletov, L.D. Kokorev, and Z.F. Inog'omjonova - on the concept of proof are examined using a comparative-polemical analysis method. Issues concerning the subject matter and subjects of proof, the principles of evidence evaluation, and the legal nature of confession in the process of proof are elucidated based on the current norms of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The article also puts forward specific scientific and practical proposals aimed at improving judicial and investigative practices.
