This article analyzes the theoretical and methodological foundations for formingand developing the speech competence of foreign students studying medicine. The essence of theconcept of "medical speech competence" and its structural components (linguistic,communicative, professional-terminological, and intercultural) are revealed [1; 2]. Based on thecompetence-based approach, communicative methodology, and the theories of teaching languagefor specific purposes (LSP – Language for Specific Purposes) [3; 4], a step-by-step model for40 foreign students' acquisition of medical speech is proposed. The results of the study contribute toimproving language teaching methodology in medical higher education institutions.
