V.V. Morkovkin believes that the term "zoonym" is not entirely suitable for designating a living being. In addition to semantic ambiguity, this term has another significant drawback. Assigning a word the status of "zoonym" may hide the fact that this word, in addition to its zoological meaning, can also be associated with the designation of objects that do not belong to the animal world. The article examines the role of zoonyms as structural components in English and Uzbek proverbs, as well as the features of their semantic and cultural interpretation in these languages.
