The presented article, based on written sources, diaries of ambassadors and intelligence officers, as well as foreign and domestic research, reveals the influence of the geopolitical situation of the mid-18th - early 19th on the Uzbek khanates, the political position of the Bukhara Emirate in the khanates, and issues of Anglo-Russian rivalry in Central Asia. Also, issues of the methodological approach and modern views on the history of foreign policy are highlighted.
