The art of speech – folklore and written literature – is a complex and multifaceted process that has been formed and developed over the centuries. Although general laws and typological phenomena play an important role in its development, the folklore and written literature of each people mature on the basis of its own historical background, social conditions, national spirit, and internal development laws. It is these unique factors that determine the diversity and artistic value of each literary tradition. Written sources – fiction, historical works, tazkiras, memoirs and other types of written texts, as well as translated literature, served as a kind of spiritual spring for getting acquainted with the rich folklore of peoples living in neighboring, near and far countries. This article also discusses the important features of Alisher Navoi's creativity, the richness and diversity of types and genres. The poet wrote many works that are present and famous in the literature of the peoples of the Near and Middle East. In them, he made effective use of beautiful examples of folklore, especially stories. There are more than two hundred stories in Navoi's epics, in particular, in the epics "Khairat ul-abror", "Sab'ai sayyor", "Saddi Iskandariy" and "Lison ut-tayr", in the philosophical and educational work "Mahbub ul-qulub", in "Tarikhi muluki Ajam", "Tarikhi anbiyo va hukamo", "Nasayim ul-muhabbat", "Majolis un-nafois" and others. These stories occupy a significant place in Navoi's creative work from an ideological and artistic point of view. In the course of the article, we will focus more on the commentary "Majolis un-nafois", which tells about the lives of his contemporaries.
