The article explores the history of the origin, formation, development of forensic medical examination service and academic departments of forensic medicine in the territory of the Republic of Belarus; national and institutional legal acts regulating appointment and conduction of medical forensic examinations. The analysis of the considered material made it possible to trace the historical path of medical forensic examination services and academic forensic medicine departments, to identify the pioneers of forensic medicine in Belarus who made an invaluable contribution to the organization and implementation of medical forensic activities. The historical stages of the origin, formation, and development of forensic medicine and forensic medicine academic departments. National procedural and organizational aspects of appointing and conducting forensic examinations at different historical stages are reflected.
