This article discusses emotional intelligence as a complex personal construct. In the study of emotional intelligence, different approaches are considered. The development of emotional intelligence is considered as a condition for the formation of a person's social success and the need for its development is substantiated. The relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership has been explored. The psychological features of the formation of emotional intelligence are revealed. Features of emotional intelligence with a number of personality traits were considered and discussed. The definition of emotional intelligence as a structural and functional characteristic of a person has been clarified.
