Effect of ionizing radiation on the luminescent properties of bismuth germanate crystals

Annotatsiya

The effect of reactor radiation on the luminescence properties and absorption spectra of single crystals of bismuth germanate Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO) has been studied. It is revealed that the degradation of the luminescent properties of the crystal is due to the appearance of absorption bands at 300−400 nm in the excitation region of Bi ions, i.e. due to the decrease in the energy of electronic excitations (EEE) and the formation of color centers in the region of 500−600 nm, where Bi ions are luminescent, which reabsorb the radiation by the color centers.
