Annotatsiya

This article examines mythological imagery as an enduring source of figurative meaning in Russian phraseology. Drawing on normative and historical-etymological dictionaries, it analyzes idioms of classical mythological origin in which names, objects, or narratives become concise models for interpreting contemporary situations. The study employs lexicographic, semantic, and linguocultural methods. The selected expressions reflect recurring situations involving vulnerability, persistent threats, futile labor, unattainable desires, conflicting dangers, guidance toward solutions, enforced conformity, oblivion, unforeseen consequences, and abundance. The findings indicate that mythological elements persist not as retellings of ancient narratives but as culturally recognizable interpretive frameworks. These expressions contribute to the Russian phraseological worldview by identifying, evaluating, and conceptualizing recurring human experiences.
