The emission of cluster ions of stoichiometric composition AnBm + (n+m≤12) has been studied under ion bombardment of boundary between two different mechanically joined metals A and B. It has been shown that along with monoatomic cluster ions Аn + and Вn + (n≤15) the hetero[1]atomic cluster ions of AnBm + type can be also formed with the high probability, these heteroatomic clusters consist of a combination of individual atoms which before bombardment were at a distance many times greater (λ>>1 µm) than the crystal lattice constant. The intensity of the yield of the AnBm + ions depends on the area that a beam of bombarding ions covers the boundary of the joined metals A and B. The dependence of the yield of the AnBm + ions on current density and target temperature has been studied. The possible mechanisms of formation of heteroatomic ions AnBm + have been discussed within the framework of available models of molecular cluster formation under ion sputtering. It has been shown that ion bombardment of boundary between different metals can serve as a method for synthesis of heteroatomic nanoparticles with desired properties without preliminary preparation of a corresponding alloy.
