Developing english-language professional communicative competence in physical education and sport students through multimodal digital educational resources

Annotatsiya

This article adapts a multimodal approach to teaching English to students in non-language university programmes to the professional communication needs of physical education and sport. Based on a theoretical and methodological analysis, it examines selected limitations of conventional instruction, the semiotic and cognitive foundations of multimodal learning, and the functions of visual, auditory, audiovisual, and interactive resources. Using a coach–athlete communication scenario, it proposes a three-stage classroom procedure, communicative tasks, and assessment criteria. Its practical relevance is discussed in relation to research on English for specific purposes in sport education. This is a theoretical and methodological article; the effectiveness of the proposed procedure has not been tested experimentally.
