Eastern education: traditions and historical roots

Research on the history of oriental education remains urgent because sources from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries are preserved in a scattered form, which makes the continuity of the madrasa system and its internal change difficult to reconstruct precisely. The aim of the study is to restore the historical roots and traditional structure of oriental education on the basis of archival materials from 1870–1920. The methodology combines historical-comparative analysis, hermeneutic interpretation, and source-study description; 27 primary documents, 9 reports, and 6 letters from the holdings of OʻzA, TsGARUz, and other repositories were compared through a single thematic matrix. The analysis revealed a three-stage model of development: first, religious and educational continuity dominated; then organizational adaptation became stronger; later, the local madrasa base remained in place. The comparative matrix showed that the fifth thematic line is weakly expressed in some documents, so the inclusion of epigraphy and oral history became necessary. The conclusion is that oriental education appears not as a broken system but as a layered historical tradition; the scientific contribution of the paper lies in proposing a categorical matrix for archival descriptions and in a source-based reconstruction of its historical roots.
