Modeling semantic relations in an electronic thesaurus of the uzbek language

This article examines the linguistic principles of modeling semantic relations in an electronic thesaurus of the Uzbek language. The study focuses on synonymy, antonymy, hypernymy–hyponymy, meronymy– olonymy, and associative relations as the principal links of a semantic network. A descriptive and modelingoriented methodology is proposed, combining semantic analysis, corpus evidence, lexical-semantic classification, and expert validation. Particular attention is given to Uzbek lexical resources and to the development ofUZWORDNET as a lexical-semantic database compatible with Princeton WordNet. The study also considers recent work by Saparova on meaningful categorization of nouns in the Uzbek thesaurus and on thesaurus research in computational linguistics. A conceptual model is proposed in which the basic unit is represented as lexeme–sense– synset–semantic relation. The model is intended to support electronic lexicography, semantic search, natural language processing, and future AI-based applications for Uzbek.
