Translating forms of address in uzbek political discourse

Forms of address are compact, but pragmatically significant elements of political discourse. They identify addressees while also indexing institutional roles, social distance, respect, solidarity, ceremonial convention, and the relationship between a political speaker and an audience. This study examines how Uzbek forms of address are rendered in official English translations of selected presidential speeches through a comparative analysis of Uzbek-English parallel texts. The findings show that correspondence at the lexical leveldoes not always guarantee correspondence at the interpersonal or institutional level. Conventional forms are generally preserved through established English equivalents, while culturally marked and relationally dens expressions may undergo reformulation, generalization, or pragmatic compression. The stud argues that address forms in political translation are best examined as discourse-pragmatic resources whose meanings emerge from the interaction between wording, institutional setting, audience, and target-language convention.
