Annotatsiya

The article examines the semantic fields, ideographic classification, internal hierarchy and translation equivalence of medical terms in English and Uzbek from a comparative perspective. A medical term is treated not merely as an isolated lexical unit but as a conceptual unit belonging to a particular specialised knowledge domain. The study substantiates the need to classify medical terms according to semantic fields, thematic groups and ideographic networks in the development of a bilingual terminological-ideographic dictionary. Particular attention is paid to full, partial and explanatory translation equivalence and to the ways in which these relations can be represented in dictionary-entry microstructure. The analysis demonstrates that a medical term should be presented through an integrated set of components, including its definition, translation equivalent, semantic field, ideographic group, derivational model and corpus context.
