Annotatsiya

This article examines the representation of female identity in Fannie Flagg‟s The All-Girl Filling Station‟s Last Reunion, focusing on the ways family, gender expectations, historical circumstances, and personal experience shape women‟s identities. The analysis considers Sookie, Lenore, Fritzi, and the Jurdabralinski sisters as different models of negotiating femininity. Sookie‟s discovery of her adoption reveals the influence of family narratives on self-understanding and shows how identity can be reassessed through the recovery of hidden family history. Lenore represents a form of femininity shaped by the social and gender restrictions of her generation, while Fritzi and the Jurdabralinski sisters demonstrate alternative forms of female agency through work, aviation, professional competence, and collective action. The comparison also reveals important differences between generations and shows that the novel does not present female identity as a simple movement from restriction to freedom. Instead, Flagg portrays femininity as a flexible and historically conditioned process involving adaptation, resistance, negotiation, and self-recognition. The study concludes that the novel broadens Flagg‟s earlier interest in female relationships by presenting identity as continuously shaped and reinterpreted through family memory, social experience, and changing historical possibilities.
