The effectiveness of artificial intelligence in teaching english as a foreign language

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into education has introduced innovative approaches to teaching and learning, particularly in the field of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). This study investigates the effectiveness of AI- based technologies in enhancing language acquisition, focusing on their impact on learners’ linguistic competence, motivation, and autonomy. The paper explores various AI tools, including intelligent tutoring systems, chatbots, speech recognition software, and automated writing evaluation platforms. It also evaluates both the pedagogical benefits and the potential limitations of AI implementation in EFL contexts. The findings indicate that AI significantly contributes to personalized learning, immediate feedback, and increased engagement. However, concerns regarding reduced human interaction, ethical considerations, and technological dependency remain critical. The study concludes that AI is most effective when integrated with traditional teaching methodologies in a balanced and pedagogically sound manner.
