SYNTHESIS AND STRUCTURAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE QUERCETIN–Mo³⁺ COMPLEX

This article presents the synthesis, physicochemical characterization and structural analysis of a new complex compound based on quercetin (3,3',4',5,7-pentahydroxyflavone) and Mo³⁺ ions. The complex was synthesized in a solution at pH 2.0-3.0, at a temperature of 30°C, with a quercetin:Mo ratio of 1.5:2.0 with maximum yield (≈90%). UV-Vis and FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and DFT calculation methods were used to determine the structure of the complex. Spectral data indicate that coordination occurs mainly through the 3-hydroxy-4-keto group (cluster C) of quercetin and partly through the 3',4'-dihydroxyl (catechol) moiety. The complex has a 1:1 (Mo:quercetin) stoichiometry, with the Mo³⁺ ion coordinated in an octahedral environment. This study helps to understand the structural features of flavonoid-metal complexes and predict their biological activity.
