Annotatsiya

The development of strong research competencies in pre-service educators is essential for advancing evidence-based pedagogy and professional growth. This study explores the current state of research proficiency and academic writing skills among prospective teachers in Uzbekistan's higher education system, while highlighting key challenges and areas for improvement. Data were collected through a cross-sectional survey of 397 pre-service teachers across five universities. Findings indicate that although many students demonstrate basic research knowledge, difficulties remain in areas such as language use, coherence, and paraphrasing. Both internal factors (e.g., motivation and confidence) and external barriers (e.g., limited feedback and complex curricula) contribute to these challenges. The study emphasizes the need for curriculum integration of research methods, stronger feedback practices, and targeted support in digital literacy and academic writing. These insights provide practical recommendations for fostering a stronger research culture within teacher education programs.
