This article analyses the chemical composition, the biologically active components and the pharmacological properties of the essential oil plants included in the pharmacopoeia. The biosynthesis of essential oils in plants, the methods of their extraction, and also their importance in the preparation of pharmaceutical products from medicinal raw materials are covered. The study also examines the changes in the quantity and the qualitative composition of the essential oils of plants depending on environmental factors.
