article examines the underlying causes of alcohol and drug addiction, highlighting psychological, socialand behavioural factors that contribute to the development of dependency. Special attention is given to the role of psychoactivesubstances, psychological vulnerability, motivational aspects and addictive behavioural patterns. The analysisalso explores how psychological defence mechanisms and emotional fascination contribute to persistent substance use.
