Disability Terminology in Uzbek: Etymological Evolution and Future Trends

Language represents a dynamic system that continually evolves in response to scientific, technological,and sociocultural developments. One of the most rapidly changing linguistic domains is disability-related terminology,reflecting advancements in assistive technologies, medical innovation, and global discourses on inclusivity. This studyexplores how disability-related lexicon has been assimilated into the Uzbek language through direct borrowing, phoneticmodification, semantic calquing, and compound formation. Using data from authoritative linguistic sources such as TheGlossary of Key Disability-Inclusive Terms, the Uzbek-English/English-Uzbek Concise Dictionary, and An Uzbek Glossary,the research identifies the main etymological mechanisms shaping Uzbek disability terminology. Furthermore, a mixedmethodsapproach is applied to predict future trends in this lexicon, particularly within fields affected by emerging technologiessuch as neuroproteins, AI-driven assistive devices, and genetic interventions. The findings emphasize the needfor standardized translation practices to ensure linguistic precision, promote effective communication, and strengthensocial inclusion. By proposing a systematic model for the adaptation and standardization of disability-related terminology,this research contributes to enhancing accessibility and inclusivity within Uzbek society. The growing similarity betweenUzbek disability terminology and international equivalents indicates a trend toward universal linguistic alignment, whichreduces ambiguity and fosters inclusive language use, benefiting both linguistic development and people with disabilities
