The role and distinctive features of satire in the scope of literary discourse

Annotatsiya

Language was created to enable human communication. Naturally, there has always been an effort to study its complex structure. However, even in branches of linguistics traditionally concerned with investigating the internal structure of language, current attention has shifted toward the functional properties of linguistic units. The development of linguistics requires an integrated consideration of both structural and functional approaches. This article examines the role of satire in literary discourse with analysis its distinctive stylistic, pragmatic and communicative features and it contains particular emphasis on irony as a principal linguistic device for expressing satirical meaning.
