Annotatsiya

Herbarium collections represent one of the most reliable sources for studying plant diversity, taxonomy, and historical floristic changes. Despite the growing importance of digital herbarium databases worldwide, comprehensive inventories and digital analyses of the genus Lythrum L. in the National Herbarium of Uzbekistan (TASH) remain insufficiently studied. This research aims to inventory, digitize, and analyze herbarium specimens of Lythrum L. preserved in TASH. The study was based on herbarium materials stored in the National Herbarium of Uzbekistan. The results revealed 246 herbarium specimens representing seven species of Lythrum L. in Uzbekistan, with L. salicaria, L. virgatum, and L. hyssopifolia being the most represented taxa. Most collections originated from humid habitats, including riverbanks, wetlands, and irrigated areas. Comparative morphological analysis clarified diagnostic characters and species variability. Historical analysis demonstrated that the majority of specimens were collected during 1928–1938, while recent increases in collections reflect renewed floristic research and digitization efforts in Uzbekistan. The study highlights the scientific significance of herbarium digitization for taxonomy, floristics, biodiversity conservation, and future biogeographical research. The compiled catalog provides an essential foundation for further systematic investigations of Lythrum species in Central Asia.
