The article analyzes the study of abstract nouns in world linguistics based on philosophical,psycholinguistic, cognitive and sociolinguistic approaches. Corpus studies, age and neurolinguisticexperiments demonstrate the complex cognitive nature and context-dependence of abstract concepts. Thedivision of abstract nouns into subcategories and their pragmatic functions in discourse are justified as arelevant direction of modern linguistics.
