Phraseological units usually create a whole meaning without changing the meanings of the words within them, whereas idioms have a fixed meaning and syntactic structure, causing the words within them to lose their individual meanings. This article provides information on the importance of understanding the difference between phraseological units and idioms in linguistics, especially in analyzing the semantic and syntactic structure of a language.
