Ideas put forward by S.O.Kartsevsky (1884-1955), one of the brightest representativesos Paris linguistic society, regarding the asymmetric dualism of linguistic sign are generalized in this article. Fruitfulness of his ideas in working out problems not only of general linguistics, but also of applied one, and linguistic poetics taken the responsibility to restructure the status of philology as a scientific subject in particular are referred in the article as well.
