This article presents a comparative analysis of the current state of municipal solid waste management across countries based on the World Bank's What a Waste 3.0 database. In particular, it examines the current global level of waste generation and the projected changes in municipal solid waste generation through 2050. Furthermore, the study analyzes differences in waste generation, composition, and distribution among countries classified by income level (low-income, lower-middle-income, upper-middle-income, and high-income countries). In addition, waste management practices are comparatively assessed across countries and income groups. The findings indicate that the effectiveness of waste management is closely associated with the level of economic development, institutional capacity, and environmental policies. Drawing on international experience, the article provides scientific and practical conclusions and offers recommendations for improving waste management systems, promoting efficient resource utilization, and advancing the principles of the circular economy.
