Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an inflammatory disease of the peripheral nervous system characterized by myelin destruction with lymphocytic and macrocytic infiltration. This disease is considered the most common cause of inflammatory polyneuropathies and occurs with a frequency of 1-3 cases per 100,000 population per year.
