The article is aimed at analyzing, in chronological order, scholarly studies on how the ruling circles of the Russian Empire carried out the subjugation of Central Asia, turned it into a colony, actively and aggressively implemented military-administrative measures, and, through the construction of railways serving Russian interests, transformed the region into a raw-material base.
