Abstract: The Greater Yuezhi migration to Northern Bactria has been studied since the 1980s. Duringthat time, a significant number of historical and archaeological sources were published, discussingthe questions of their ethnicity, the process of conquest and settlement of the Yuezhi in Bactria, and thehistory of the formation of the Kushan Empire.The outcomes of the research indicate that the process of urbanization in Northern Bactria has beenintensifying since the 1st century BC, and the Greater Yuezhi played an important role in this process.In the article, based on the geographical location of the burial grounds of the last quarter of the2nd century BC and Kushan period (1st century AD - middle of the 3rd century AD), zones of initialnomadism and settlement of the Greater Yuezhi ethnic group to the north of the Oxus-Amu Darya wereidentified. The following main zones have been identified by the authors: Baysun-Bandikhon, Termezand its district, Airtam-Khatynrabat, Vakhshuvar-Dalvarzintepa, Tupalang-Khalchayan-northwesternspurs of Babatag, Gissar oasis, Bishkent oasis, Takht-i Sangin - the right bank of the Vakhsh, Tashrabat-Kugitang and etc.A comparative analysis of archaeological, anthropological, and written sources indicates that theprocess of settling the Greater Yuezhi in Northern Bactria took place in stages and other yabghu, alongwith the Guishuang (Kushan) yabghu, played a major role in the rise of the Kushan Empire.
