The article discusses the structure of the formation of general competencies in students, motivational, cognitive (need, goal setting, interest, motivation, forecasting, analytical skills and interpretation), activity, the content of characteristics (formation of competencies, independent use of competencies, competence, self-esteem) and indicators of competence when evaluating the results. The results obtained can be used to increase the effectiveness of teaching in general education schools, pedagogical monitoring and teaching of general education subjects when creating educational materials for educational modules, developing tasks for international assessment systems, as well as individual competencies.
