Despite the measures taken, iodine deficiency still persists in the Republic of Uzbekistan; more than 31% of the child population is exposed to its side effects. In order to eliminate iodine deficiency, WHO and UNICEF recommend salt iodization and iodine replenishment with tablets in risk groups. The resulting improvements in cognitive development and future earnings suggest a potential global economic benefit of nearly US$33 billion. At the same time, WHO experts recommend following doses of potassium iodide preparations not exceeding 1000 mcg (1 mg) per day. The use of Table Potassium iodide in children at a dose of 500-1000 mcg once a week for more than 70 years of practical experience has proven its effectiveness and safety, and can be recommended for the prevention of the negative effects of iodine deficiency in children living in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
