This article studies the natural regime of sediment movement in the area of the water intake from the Amu Darya River into the Tashsaka canal. For this purpose, a calibrated two-dimensional hydrodynamic model was developed, on which calculations were performed at water discharges of 100, 200, 300 and 500 m³/s, obtained from actual observations at the Tuyamuyun gauging station in 2021. Topographic maps, SRTM-3 elevation data and multi-year satellite images were used in constructing the model. The model was calibrated using 2020–2021 data with an accuracy of 5–15 cm, and verification (for the entire year 2021) showed a result of R²=0.83. It was found that the water-level stabilisation time varies from 8 to 14 days depending on the discharge. The developed model and the resulting baseline data can subsequently be used to assess the real effectiveness of any engineering solution.
