Italiya Yevropada to‘rtinchi va dunyoda yettinchi yirik iqtisodiyot bo‘lib, Jahon bankining rasmiy ma’lumotlari va Savdo iqtisodiyoti prognozlariga ko‘ra, 2022 yilda Italiyada YaIM taxminan 2,01 trillion AQSh dollarini tashkil etdi. Italiya yalpi ichki mahsulotining qiymati dunyo iqtisodiyotining 1,68 foizini tashkil qiladi. Italiya iqtisodiyoti uchun muhim sektor turizmdir, u butun mamlakat hududini qamrab olganiga qaramay, ba’zi mintaqalarda boshqalarga qaraganda muhimroq rol o‘ynaydi; bu qisman yirik san’at shaharlari va taniqli dengiz bo‘yidagi kurortlarning jozibadorligi bilan izohlanadi. Agroturizm tashrif buyuruvchilarni asosan qishloq xo‘jaligi maqsadlarida foydalaniladigan joyga olib kelishni o‘z ichiga oladi. Italiyada agroturism tarixi 1965 yildan boshlangan. 1973 yilda sayyohlar fermalarda qolib, fermerlardan qishloq hayoti haqida bilib olishlari uchun rasmiy agroturizm ferma nomi yaratilgan.
