ABSTRACT This article studies the text of letters of recommendation in French from the perspective of a communicative situation. The components of letters of recommendation, their pragmatic functions, and the characteristics of communication between the addressee and the addressee are analyzed. The author identifies the use of language tools in letters of recommendation, formal tone, the text's basis in socio-normative principles, and the characteristics of the speech act in the communicative context. The article examines in detail the structure of letters of recommendation and their functional capabilities based on the communication model and pragmatic approaches of such linguists as R.Yakobson, I.P. usov, N.I.Farmonovskaya, E.S.Aznaurova. Also, real letters of recommendation and sample texts are taken and analyzed as the object of analysis. In general, the article highlights the pragmatic significance of letters of recommendation in communication and the specificity of the communicative situation.
