The article looks at how social differences between men and women are reflected in everyday communication. After reviewing research on verbal behavior, the article expands the analysis to much less researched areas: paraverbal expression, specifically the vocal range, which is influenced by each person's perception of the "ideal" voice, which is socially acceptable, even though it is "naturally" conditioned.
