This article explores the similar and distinctive features of two stylistic figures based on alogism: oxymoron and verbal irony. Various aspects of these stylistic figures, their functions, effects and impact on the audience are also analyzed in the article. The article is based on a theoretical review of modern research in the field of stylistics and linguistics, as well as examples from literary texts in Russian and English.
