This article examines the methodological and theoretical aspects of intergenerational relations. The original methodological basis for this problem lay in Plato's understanding of human origins, as well as in the views of Russian philosophers on the hereditary unity of man and society. The article analyzes the ideas of philosophers M.Heidegger and E.E.Husserl on intersubjective experience, which is interpreted as the relationship between the older and the new generation, between adults and children, or as the relationship between them. In a context of change, society requires that it be viewed as a historical process based on the principles of the revival and modification of social relations, continuity and separation, tradition and innovation. In this sense, generation serves as a historical instrument for measuring the scale and direction of social change, which changes over time. «The successive emergence of new «biological beings» will inevitably lead to a certain amount of accumulated cultural values; but, on the other hand, it makes a «new choice», which is achieved only when necessary. This encourages us to re-evaluate what we've collected and teaches us to forget what's no longer needed and to strive for what's unattainable». This «step» will help determine the balance between the past and the future.
