The article is devoted to the results of a theoretical approach to understanding violence asa sociocultural phenomenon. The definitions of the concept of violence have been studied. Thesociological and psychological approaches to the study of violence existing in modern sociology areanalyzed: the theory of social learning, symbolic interactionism, structural theory, theory of control,etc. Psychological approaches such as the theory of frustration-aggression, aggressive behaviorassociated with socio-biological characteristics of a person, socio-cognitive theory, etc. are analyzed.The approaches of scientists to the interpretation of the concept of "violence", the mechanisms andpatterns of violence as a form of people's attitudes towards each other are highlighted. Through thestudy of theoretical aspects, socio-psychological approaches, an attempt is made to reveal the essenceof the phenomenon of violence.
