Annotatsiya

This article gives special emphasis to the symbols found in the historical and modern monuments and structures of Uzbekistan. Famous symbols in Islamic architecture—such as the door, threshold, column, minaret, qibla, and mihrab—are explained through examples using a comparative method. In particular, it is highlighted on the basis of documentary evidence and facts that the geometric and symmetrical ganch patterns inscribed on the doors, domes, khanaqas, and portals of historical monuments in cities like Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, and Termez signify specific symbols.
