In the process of teaching a foreign language, the formation and development of each type of speech activity requires peculiar methodological approaches. Listening serves as a support for speaking, speaking – for reading, reading – for writing. Listening skills prepare you to understand spoken language in the language you are learning. Audio and video materials with live speech samples are used to form this skill in the language learning process. It is known that live speech in Uzbek differs significantly from literary speech. Therefore, in teaching Uzbek as a foreign language, the actual problems today are the ways to develop audio materials for the development and assessment of speech skills, the types of applications of these materials to increase their effectiveness. The article emphasizes the interrelation of listening skills with other types of speech activity and presents the main types and mechanisms of listening comprehension. The study identifies the difficulties encountered in the process of listening and analyzes the stages of listening skill development in teaching the Uzbek language.
